Not likely: The beginning of menopause is usually indicated by a skipping of periods, perhaps with some occasional hot flashes. Three straight weeks of bleeding at age 40 may indicate some hormonal irregularity, or could be caused by polyps or fibroids. Usually this resolves on its own, but if not, you should be evaluated for sources of abnormal bleeding.
