Medical Culture: I doubt that any of us here would feel comfortable taking on this question. We do not know your history, your blood tests, the medication you are on, etc. We do not know what your physician has already done or what he has actually said. Remember you always have a right to ask these questions directly to your physician. You have a right to get a second opinion from another doctor.

Rule out bad things: The value of a D&C or endometrial biopsy in a 49 yo with menstrual problems is to rule out abnormalities such as polyps of an overgrowth of tissue that can lead to cancer. If a hormonal issue is the cause then hormones can be used to treat the problem. A D&C (or endometrial biopsy done in the office) is a diagnostic procedure and it gives the doc information that helps in your treatment.
