Hard to tell: Without seeing him it is difficult to tell. If it is not gone in a few days i would suggest seeing a dentist or physician for a diagnosis and treatment. It could be a virus, or something else..

Could be many things: Please see ur dentist, and he may even refer you to a periodontist or oral surgeon for further evaluation. It needs to be looked at and examined closely, but it may be as simple as fungal infection, or herpetic lesion ... But please .. Dont take it lightly.
