Cough: Coughing should not hury your vocal cords but I am concerned about the swelling in back of your throat. See an ENT specialist to find out what is causing the swelling.

Coughing: Hello, coughing is a normal response to various stimulation. It provides a means to expel mucus from the lungs that can be excessive, carrying irritants or bacteria and also protects the lungs from mucus/irritants from the throat. Since the cough is a normal occurrence, injury to your vocal cords or back of the throat shouldn't be a worry.
