Reflux: After we eat, food goes from mouth through esophagus to stomach. At lower end of esophagus, there is a bundle of circular muscle called 'lower esophageal sphincter. This closes automatically so that the stomach contents does not come back to esophagus to cause spitting up, vomiting, and ulceration of esophagus from acid mixed food of stomach. This is called gastro-esophageal reflux, ger or gerd.
