If, as an improbable example, the animal was spraying saliva onto you and you had open cuts in your skin, conceivably you could be infected. It seems however that it would be wise for all employees in a veterinarian office to have been immunized for rabies.

Rabies from aerosols: Only under exceptionally rare cases might rabies be transmitted through the air --the environment would be a bat cave with millions of bats flying around your head. You would not get it from being near a rabid animal. However if you work in a vet's office - I would just get the vaccines as it could save you alot of trouble in the future, God forbid if u are scratched or bitten by a suspect animal.
