THYROID HORMONE : Thyroid peroxidase (tpo) is a key enzyme in the synthesis of thyroid hormone T3 (liothyronine) and T4 by thyroid gland. If there is defect in tpo gene, the child can have congenital hypothyroidism. There may be tpo antibody seen in blood test in case of auto-immune destruction of the thyroid gland. In either case, thyroid hormone supplementation is the main treatment. Talk to the endocrinologist in detail.
