Infection: If your tonsils are "white" it could be 1 of 3 things. First, mononucleosis causes white patches over the tonsil. Second, if you have white flakes over the tonsils, you could have tonsiliths, which is plaque (composed of bacteria like on your teeth) filling the crypts of the tonsils, or your throat could be dry and you have a film. A rare cause would be diphtheria, but that is uncommon.
