Tonsils: Hello, the tonsils occupy a space in the back of your mouth at the sides of your tongue base. They function as lymph tissues and help your immune system recognize the different foods and liquids you eat and drink. When your tonsils become enflammed, swelling occurs and your sensation of swallowing changes. This feeling should return to normal after the inflammation subsides.
