Get checked: This is a long duration for common viral causes of sore throat. You are due for an examination and testing (culture, rapid strep, and/or monospot). It will be important to know if you've had any associated symptoms (fever, cough, nausea, swelling, abdominal pain/heartburn, voice changes etc). Potential causes other than infection are acid reflux, allergy, tonsil stone, esophageal problem.

R/O CRYPT TRAPPING: Tonsilar crypt trapping can cause chronic tonsillitis you need to have throat cultured and a full panel of blood work. Empiric antibiotics Also ENT CONSULT re tonsillectomy . The firm external sensation may be a secondary enlarged lymph node.
