Heel pain: That is a good start. You still may need a better shoe, better insert, night splint, stretching exercises, anti inflammatory meds, steroid injection, etc or surgery. Most do not need surgery. You may have a stress fracture that would require you to be off your foot. There can be a inflamed nerve. Really best to go get this checked out.

Depends: It depends on what the cause is. Among the more common causes of heel pain is plantar faciitis and there are some good stretches that can sometimes help. If it fails that, consider a physical exam to determine the cause. If it is plantar faciitis, a cortisone shot can sometimes get rid of it. Thank you for the question.

Rice: Rest, ice, compression and elevation, stretching, possible steroid injection and what helps most in my opinion custom orthotics.
