A member asked:

Gp wants a barium swallow to diagnosis my acid reflux. i'm afraid of getting a bowel obstruction/bad constipation. endoscopy a better option to dx?

They're right: Barium swallow is the best first study for diagnosing reflux. As long as you drink plenty of water you won't get constipated.

EGD scoping: A barium swallow followed by water siphonage will demonstrate reflux. An egd will look for ulcers, cell changes, bacteria and tumors.
