What should you do if you have trace results for leukocytes but negative for nitrites?

Urinalysis: A microscopic evaluation of the urine looking for white blood cells, bacteria, red blood cells, etc. will give more information for a presumptive diagnosis. A confirmatory diagnosis of an infection would be made with a urine culture.
