Can period blood mess up the results of a pap smear?

Yes, likely: Pap is done to collect cells from cervix....So too much blood around that area may make it difficult to collect an adequate sample but if the period was light, then cervix may not be covered with blood and no interfere with pap test. Ask for advice from your gynecologist.

Not the result: If period blood is present and interferes with the collection of cells from the cervix, the lab will report that the specimen cannot be interpreted.
