Olfaction: Injury to the olfactory nerves or the part of the brain that processes smell could be affected. Also, certain types of seizures can make people think of certain tastes/smells.

Certain areas : Responsible for olfaction. At times episodic unpleasant smell may represent a focal seizure. I would recommend to check with neurologist.
