See below: Try to stay in a nice quiet dark room, try to relax. If needed, yoi can take anti- inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen or even acetaminophen. As an analgesic. If you have recurrent headaches, pls see your doctor. Know your triggers, that will help you hopefully avoid further attacks.

Prevention vs treat: I agree w/drs. Salcedo & newman in treating an acute migraine headache. However, if you have migraines frequently enough (you're the judge of that), consider taking medications to prevent them, rather than dosing w/pain killers regularly. In april 2012, american academy of neurology published 2 guidelines for prevention: http://alvinblin.Blogspot.Com/2012/04/evidence-based-migraine-prevention.Html.

Get checked out: A good start at finding potential headache triggers would be to maintain a diary. Every time you have a headache write down what you were doing, the foods you ate that day, alcohol, smoking, caffeine, stress, how much sleep you had the night before, eye strain, etc. Try to find patterns in your headache so that you can learn what things to avoid. Get checked by your doctor.
