Do a lot of people have a little amount of heart valve leakage. i just had a mitral valve repair & they said still minimal amount of leakage..why?

Not uncommon: With repair you may still have a small regurgitation, but not damaging or overloading. Regular echo followup, is important general health is also important. Non smoker weight , diet, and exercize are relevant.

Yes: Mitral valve repair even with a small residual leak is better than valve replacement. Your valve is primarily abnormal and it is always possible to have trivial leak after surgery. You will need continued medical treatment with blood pressure medication to prolong the life of valve repair.
