Viruses: Can cause it. It would be very unusual for a 16 year old to have cancer. Relax and have faith in your doctor. I'm sure it will go away. If the lump does not go away in a couple of weeks you might want to see an ENT doctor or a dentist.

Yes: Could very well an inflamed gland or a sequel of a trauma. The soar throat may be or not related to the tongue lump. Wen suspecting cancer there must be a biopsy confirmation.

Cancer is not the: Only condition that causes lump in the tongue and sore throat . Infection , injury , congential abnormalities , granulomatous diseases and many other are all possibilities . At your age , I do not suspect to have cancer of the tongue . I will strongly suggest to be see by your doc . You may or may not have biopsy of the lesion . Good luck.

Unlikely cancer: Tongue, mouth & throat cancer are all very rare especially in someone your age. Cancer is usually painless & does not cause a sore throat. Oral cancer is most common in adults who chew tobacco or other products as in the middle east or asia. U most likely have a minor infection of tongue or throat.
