Does hypothyroid cause anemia?

It can cause: Or worsen anemia, but it's easy to treat with brand name T4 replacement. Check w/your doctor and get your levels normal and then see about your anemia which may still need treatment but at least has a chance to be normalized.

Yes it can.....: If you think about it, this makes sense. The thyroid is like the thermostat of the body, and levels of hormone produced by it control the furnace (metabolism). If the furnace is being told to work less, it uses less of the factors needed for combustion (food & o2). Hypothyroidism, either from direct thyroid dysfxn or reduced stimulation by tsh, is consistent w/ anemia due to reduced o2 needs.
