A member asked:

If someone has subclinical hypothyroidism(sch) which is being untreated, and also has anemia, does lack of treatment cause the anemia to become worse and worse over time?(assuming sch is causing anemia)

Treat: Why not treat the subclinical hypothyroidism which may cause a mild anemia? I wouldn't expect the anemia to get profoundly worse just on the basis of untreated hypothyroidism, however. With marked anemia i would look for other causes.

Possibly: The degree of anemia in patients with sch and overt hypothyroidism was found to not be significantly different from each other when compared to controls in recent trials. That being said, an individual patients anemia can worsen over time.

Hypothyroidism.: There are many causes of anemia. Mild hypothyroidism does not usually cause anemia in my experience.
