Does anaesthetic lead to loss of bladder control?

Dr. James Lin answered

Yes,...: Temporary loss of bladder control does occur in spinal anesthesia or deep general anesthesia so it's a decent good practice to catheterize surgical patients if the procedure or spinal anesthesia last longer than 4-5 hours. If not, inadvertent bladder over-distention leading to significant bladder muscle weakness may happen; beware.
