Not quite: If you have received treatment for your metacarpal fracture with splinting or bracing and your doctor has removed the brace, you should begin range of motion exercises. If you immediately begin activities like punching, or boxing, the fracture could re-break. It usually takes 2 to 4 more weeks for the fracture to be rigid enough to tolerate impact.

3 months to heal: In general, it takes about 3 months for your broken metacarpal to completely heal. If you have a nondisplaced and stable fracture, you may begin early motion exercises with close weekly supervision. Most metacarpal fractures are treated with closed reduction and cast immobilization for 4 weeks followed by bracing for another 4 weeks.
