Either or Both: Swelling of the ankle can be from blood clots, but usually you also have swelling of the leg and pain in the calf with walking. Just swelling can be from congestive heart failure, venous insufficiency, or blood clots. If you think you have a blood clot you should be evaluated by a physician immediately to prevent further problems.
