Right ankle has been hurting since yesterday. slightly swelling. i haven't done anything to cause this. how can i tell if it is a blood clot?

Not likely: It is not terribly likely, but if there is any concern on your part I would be seen in the emergency room where a simple test can tell if you have a blood clot. Blood clots in the leg usually cause diffuse swelling in the calf and leg below the clot; not usually swelling limited to the ankle.
