Heat, age, hygiene: It is most likely dried tears and discharge from blepharitis-gets worse when its hotter, poor lid hygiene and aging. Regular lid hygiene with occaisional topical antibiotics controls it. Warm compress with lid scrubs. Bad cases or rosacea (see your doctor for this diagnosis) are often given systemic antibiotics (pills you take by mouth) in addition to topical. Its never cured-its controlled!
