A member asked:

Can a stress fracture be seen on an x-ray?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not necessarily: Plain xrays may certainly miss a stress fracture. Fractures can be surprisingly difficult to diagnose and depend on a lot of factors including the quality of the xray (angles, adequate number of views, adequate tissue penetration). Sometimes a more expensive test may be required (such as MRI or ct scan).
