A 41-year-old member asked:
When do you see a doctor when you have sharp pain in the lower left side of your abdomen?

When: Ther is not much on your left side like your appendix is on the right side. You are a bit young for serious diverticulitis but it could happen and that is on the left. If your pain is excruciating, blood in stool, have fever then of course go. Sounds more like constipation -round hard poop or straining ? Try MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) in that case. If not better go.

A 25-year-old female asked:
Is it normal when your left side of your abdomen has sharp pain?

Not normal: having sharp pain at the left side of the abdomen. This could be a lot of think since you do not give full history. Such as ovarian cyst , gi problems such as diverticulitis, muscle strain, hernia , abcess, etc. Do you have fever? Any change in your bowel habit? Did you miss your period? See a doctor. An ultrasound or ct scan of the abdomen is probably needed.

Lots: Could be appendicitis, ovarian torsion (if you're a woman!), crohn's disease, diverticulitis, kidney stones, gas pains or more. Need to see a doc for a proper exam to narrow down the causes.
