If it can be felt: In general, the doctor usually cannot feel the spleen in the left upper abdomen unless the patient is very thin. If it can be felt in a normal size person, it is considered enlarged. By ultrasound criteria, a measurement of over 12 cm is considered large, but even that isn't written in stone.
