Not necessary: It doesnt necessarily mean your heart is malfunctioning. What it could be mean is that you have some other underlying issue going on. You could have hardened vessels or a build of plaque or cholesterol. You could have familial reason for your bp. Check with your physician to have an appropriate work up.

Hypertension: No. It means that your heart is working too hard to keep up it's normal functioning. Your doctor should know this is happening and you should be ready to be on medication until the source of the problem is found.
