Infection: Definitely sounds like an infection of the tooth or tooth area- periodontal ligament and/or bone. Depending upon the cause, it could be a tooth abscess, gum abscess, or both. See a dentist asap!

Needs dental care: Possible gingivitis (inflammation of gum) or dental caries (cavity). Can try dental rinses (mouthwash) and Acetaminophen (tylenol) orally, but if unresponsive see dentist for further evaluation.
