A member asked:

Traction can give canal stenosis or not?

Low back pain: Traction does not cause spinal canal stenosis. Spinal stenosis is caused by an overgrowth of ligaments, facet joints, and bulging or herniated discs. Lumbar or cervical traction is meant to open up the foramina where the nerve roots exit the spinal canal.

Well: that is an interesting thought. Likely if you are getting traction it will stretch your spine which will cause a slight extension moment in the area. If you already have spinal stenosis, it could decrease the space a little. The goal of the decompression is to relieve pressure off of the discs and facet joints. If you have severe spinal stenosis, i would probably stay away from this treatment.
