That's insomnia: You can't "try" yourself to sleep. No one falls asleep by trying. You fall asleep if we're relaxed at the right point in your circadian rhythm. If it is the right time of the day and you can't fall asleep, you have insomnia.

Sleep: It is possible that you have initial insomnia. Try using good sleep hygiene techniques. 1. Keep a regular bedtime & wakening time (to include weekends). Get up the same time each day, regardless of what time you fell asleep. 2. Make a regular, relaxing bedtime routine. Relaxing rituals prior to bedtime may include a warm bath or shower, aroma therapy, reading, or listening to gentle music.
