Usually None: It is extremely unusual for patients to experience any degree of significant pain following a dental cleaning. The procedure is performed in such a way that the tissues are not traumatized. Even deep cleaning for which anesthesia is required should not be painful after the medications have worn off. Please talk to your dentist about this.

Pain after dental: We prescribe over the counter medications for most patients. I like tylenol (acetaminophen) and ibuprophen together in alternating doses as they work on different pain fibers and receptors.
