Ankle swelling. : Most likely a new problem or recurrence of the old problem. The swelling would not be related to the ankle surgery 8 yrs ago. See you foot and ankle specialist.

Swelling: Would not be caused by surgery from 8 years ago. Could be many things that cause it like medications, alcohol, salt, hypertension, venous flow etc... Start with pcp for, some possible tests.
