Seeing arcs of light after cataract surgery, is this normal?

Depends: Arcs of light after cataract surgery can be related to the lens implant or the vitreous gel of the eye. Please see your eye surgeon for a proper diagnosis.

Common!: Arcs of light are usually symptoms from light reflecting off the new lens implant as it settles into place, and the eye heals. Arcs of light may also come from traction on the vitreaous (tugs on the retina from the jelly inside the eye). You should discuss this further with your surgeon.

Yes: Depending on implant placed & preop risk factors (high myope?), seeing arcs of light after cataract surgery usually is normal & due to light hitting rim of implant. If have flashing lights, can be due to traction on retina from vitreous detachemnt. If flashing lights continue or new black floaters, then see eyeMD for dilated exam. eyedoc2020@blogspot.com
