Old school: Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is a good allergy medication, but it only lasts for 4-6 hours and also makes you tired. I prefer the longer acting, non-sedating medications for my patients with allergies such as fexofenadine (allegra), Cetirizine (zyrtec), levocetirizine (xyzal), or Loratadine (claritin).
