May be: Crackling in the ear is pretty non-specific. An abnormal ear sound can occur from something within the ear itself, or with the sinus passages around the ear. The diagnosis of an ear infection is made by a physician who looks into the ear canal and evaluates the tissue and the ear drum. If that is clear, they should look in your throat to see if there is swelling of tonsils. Check sinuses also.
