Depends: Swelling related to an abscess usually responds to appropriate treatment and antibiotic within a few days. The treatment is meant to reduce the bacterial load and provide an avenue for drainage. The antibiotics are meant to assist the body's systemic response to fight the remaining bacteria. If you are not responding quickly contact your doctor to reevaluate the condition.

Depends : Typically it takes a couple of days for the antibiotic to kick in. However, if you do not resolve the source of the infection the antibiotic will only act as a "band-aid" and the infection will return.
