Can an impacted wisdom tooth get better on its own?

Impacted wisdom: If the tooth is not bothering you do not touch it. Some people do have partially erupted wisdom teeth for a long time and it does not bother them. However the dentists will usually suggest removal of wisdom teeth as they thin there is no purpose for these teeth and that it is a site for cavities to occur since it is difficult to reach in the back and clean them.

Yes: Impacted only means that the tooth is not erupted. If it erupts and function, it will "get better on its own." but impacted does not mean it hurts.

Wisdom tooth: Most of the time wisdom teeth become "troublemakers" if there is a connection with "outside world" meaning- there is an opening to the oral cavity that may cause bacteria to penetrate inside and cause inflammation and/ or an abscess , so we normally recommend to have those wisdom teeth to be extracted.
