Yes: Structural studies of the joints- including ct scans, MRI scans, and xrays show changes usually only after significant damage to the cartilage has occurred. It is possible to have early osteoarthritis and not have changes severe enough to show up on those imaging studies. Thank you for the question.

I had an xray the indicated that I have osteoarthritis but my doctor wanted me to have an MRI to confirm. If on the day I had the MRI I wasn't having a flare up, will it show up still on the MRI the inflammation or no?
MRI of hips show osteoarthritis, joint effusion, gluteal tendonipathy (all bi-lateral) and free pelvic fluid. Is there treatment for this?
