Yes: In general, osteoarthritis is a condition that is a later finding on imaging. You can develop symptoms prior to visualization on xrays. On the other side of things, you can have osteoarthritis on an xray and not even feel anything!

Imaging: X-rays can show early findings of subchondral sclerosis, osteophytes, and mild joint space narrowing in an early arthritis. Lower extremity films, such as knees, will tend to show more arthritis on weight bearing films. Ct and MRI sometimes fail to show all soft tissue and cortical changes in early arthritis.
