Does it feel better: After wards ? Both heat and ice packs can be used for inflammation and injuries depending on circumstances . If you feel better after initial discomfort i think it is worth continuing . However , if it is not helping , talk to both your providers about it

Heat or cold: Ice cold constricts the blood vessels and is used for acute injury with swelling, to reduce the muscle & bone swelling. Heat dilates the blood vessels and helps to supply more blood with nutrient and oxygen. Just for arthritis with out swelling you can use warm compress. You have to know the cause of knee pain!thanks.
