Sinuses and Smell: Nasal congestion from any cause may affect the smell and taste. The tongue only tastes sweet, salt, sour and bitter - all other "flavors" are actually smell picked up by the nose. Nasal swelling of any kind can block the olfactory areas high in the nostrils and taste diminishes. Viruses, polyps and trauma can physically damage the nerves (this can be pemanent or can improve over time).

Anosmia: In your case, i suspect that there may be polyps that are blocking the smells from getting to the nerves that sense smells. I think that an ENT would be the better doctor to see. If it is just the chronic sinusitis causing the problem, the ENT would also be the better doctor in the long run.
