Yes: It can be treated with a variety of resources. Psychotherapy of different types is the most "natural" way. Some preparations have been used for thousands of years (valerian) and have their role too. As long as suicidal ideas are not present, in most cases, strong meds can be avoided if that s your preference. However, those could help you get faster results, and are safe enough.

Yes and no: Severe depressiion is difficult to treat with just psychotherapy or natural remedies. Usually these two approches are more effective in mild to moderate depression.
