No: Vertebral osteomyelitis is not contagious. Patients with TB vertebral osteomyelitis can have concomitant pulmonary TB which would be contagious. Patients with staphylococcus aureus osteomyelitis are often colonized in their nose and on their skin and can spread this colonization to others by direct contact with skin or secretions.

Depends: Vertebral osteomyelitis by itself is usually not contagious. If associated with tuberculosis or other systemic infection can get infection from secretions of pulmonary component of disease. MRSA(methicilllin resistent staphylococcus aureus) can involve bone and have skin lesions that can be contagious.
