Depends on healing: Once the cast comes off your fractured ankle, stability is dependent on where in your recouping from the time the ankle was examined, treated and immobilized. Hopefully 6-8 weeks following a fracture or orif, the bones are healed. Your doctor will give you instructions on what you can and can't do following the cast removal.

Stiffness, swelling: And weakness. All can be relieved gradually via a combination of exercises and physical therapy. It will take longer than you think to get back to normal, however. Ask derek jeter.
