I was in er last night for shortness of breath/lightheadedness. i got fluids/tests and was sent home. the monitor kept saying "couplets" and "vtech" once.the doctor said it was nothing and that they were artifacts from moving. could it be cancer?

Likely normal: A cardiac monitor records electrical signals from the heart. Any muscular movement (which also sends electrical signals) can cause artifact and be misread as ectopy (eg. Premature ventricular contraction or PVC or a couplet (two beats linked with one being a pvc). Given your age and assuming you don't have any cardiac disease i would agree it is nothing to be alarmed.

See cardiologist: Probably nothing but with your symptoms and the findings on ekg would be sure by seeing a board certified cardiologist for further evaluation.

Changes on Monitor: Monitors are great on picking up changes in your heart beats. They are also great on picking up movement and loose patches. Without looking at your strips, i can't tell if these were "real" or artifact. If there is concern you should see a cardiologist and have a monitor placed for 24 hours or more. If the er obtained printed strips these would be helpful.
