A member asked:

Gyn wants to do mirena (levonorgestrel) for my pcos since my stroke, 3 weeks ago. is that okay? will it work for pcos?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It's ideal: Patients with pcos are at increased risk of exposure to excess estrogen. Mirena (levonorgestrel) has no estrogen, only progesterone. Progesterone is like an anti-estrogen, so it helps women with pcos lower their risk of endometrial cancer (for which they are at increased risk). Thus your doctor is doing a great thing by using Mirena (levonorgestrel) to help with the pcos.
