Not a problem: Unless you have a specific disease process like hemochromotosis, which causes abnormal retention of iron or a hemolytic anemia, iron overload is not a problem. If you have one of these problems, then therapeutic phlebotomy (for hemochromotisis) or chelation with Deferoxamine (for the anemias) are among the standard treatments.

Iron overload: If you have iron overload- then choose food that has low iron content. Treatment will depend on the cause of the iron overload. If this is caused by hemochromatosis-then phlebotomy to remove blood/iron would be the treatment.. If iron overload is caused by getting to many blood transfusion- iron chelating agent such as deferoxamine, ex-jade etc would be the treatment.
