Supportive care : Colds are caused by viruses, so tx is supportive care & watching for response. Fluids are key: may have poor appetite, but they must drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration. Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Ibuprofen will help fever (making children more comfortable) & humidified air may help with mucus. If the sxs worsen dramatically, may now have bacterial super infxn--> may need antibiotics. Pcp should recheck.

Depends: If your child has a runny nose and cough but otherwise doing fine they may just have a bad cold. However, if your child has fever associated with that running nose and cough and is not eating well then they may need further evaluation by your pediatrician to see if something else is going on.
